NOTICE #1:
The Music Software Exchange isn't the developer of any of the public domain or
shareware programs available in our library, but many files have been released
to M.S.E. for publication by individual authors.  Many hundreds of sound banks
were developed in the M.S.E. studios and, after testing procedures, text files
included as documentation were added  or modified to correctly correspond with
actual abilities of files (as described within our catalogs). Accordingly, all
programs are provided "as is" without warranty, express or implied,  including
no warranty of merchantibility or fitness for particular purposes and all text
files included with public domain programs are copyrighted by M.S.E.

The user assumes the risk as to the quality and performance of programs. In no
event will the Music Software Exchange be liable for any direct and  indirect,
special, incidental,  or consequential damages suffered as a result of using a
file or a program, whether in contract or tort.

Much software in our catalog was obtained from places that claim public domain
status of the programs or from bulletin board services that limit the uploaded
files to Public Domain or shareware software only (see exceptions below).   If
you find a file which does not belong here, let us know and we will check, and
if found to be true, we will remove it from our catalog. We found there wasn't
enough public domain music software available to let us maintain our services,
so many utility and sound bank disks do contain files developed by M.S.E. Many
of the disks also contain files released specifically to M.S.E. We do maintain
records of release and/or permission letters to distribute on file.

Please be aware that even though you are buying the disks, cataloging, and the
copying service from us, you aren't relieved of the legal and moral obligation
to acknowledge the authors of these programs. Many programs in our library are
copyrighted material belonging to the individual authors. Others are reprinted
articles for which permission was obtained. Additionally, any files which have
been released to us for publication or files that are written or revised by us
are copyrighted. In cases where supplied documentation did not coincide with a
program's actual capabilities or when we receive questions about programs, the
upgraded or rewritten instructions are copyrighted by MSE.  Some disks contain
files that are actually commercial products not currently on the retail market
distributed at public domain pricing, but can't be duplicated or redistributed
without the authors or copyright holder's express permission.  All sound banks
and utility programs developed or modified by M.S.E. also cannot be duplicated
without written permission from M.S.E. The many various trademarks of products
listed in our catalogs and on the distribution disks  are recognized en masse.
Please respect their rights.

This disk, the full collection of disks, individual disk collections,  certain
individual program files, upgraded documentation files written by us after our
testing and program verification and the disk numbering system are copyrighted
material held by the Music Software Exchange.

NOTICE #2:
Thank you for ordering our software catalog.   The Music Software Exchange was
formed in 1987 to save you money by providing public domain music software and
shareware. This catalog disk will describe hundreds of disks of programs which
are designed to be used with a MIDI interface. This catalog also includes many
hundreds of popular copyrighted songs including Rock, Country, Jazz, Religious
and more.  You will also find many hundreds of files included from our studios
along with program and text reprints, from various users groups and magazines,
for which permission was obtained to distribute. If you're using your computer
to make music, this catalog has software to assist with your creative efforts.

All disks distributed by MSE are guaranteed readable and every program file is
guaranteed to work as described on the catalog disk.  If a disk is found to be
faulty, simply return it within 90 days and we'll replace it - You do not need
to call for a return authorization. Please be aware that not all program files
will work with all hardware configurations  (some may require use of a certain
monitor type or require a certain type of graphics printer, etc). Any specific
equipment needs will be listed in the file descriptions included on this disk.

All MIDI programs are written for Roland MPU compatible MIDI interfaces unless
the disk description states differently.  Limited support is also included for
VAPI and Key interfaces. MPU interfaces are manufactured by Roland and include
all MPU cards and the SCC1 Sound Canvas card.   MPU compatible MIDI interfaces
are distributed by MIDIMAN, Music Quest, Computer Music Supply & Voyetra. Many
cards have followed the MPU standard. The documentation for the MIDI interface
you are using will state MPU compatibility if it has this capability.  The Key
Electronics MIDI interfaces do not follow the MPU standard but many of the MSE
disks can be used with these.  Earlier Voyetra Technologies interfaces such as
the V4001 are MPU compatible and the later Voyetra interfaces, such as the V22
or V44, are VAPI compatible MIDI interfaces. You can purchase upgrade hardware
to also allow these to be MPU compatible.  PAIA Electronics also distributes a
VAPI MIDI interface. Support is included for all of these interface types. The
Sound Blaster Card, and most other internally installed IBM sound cards, use a
proprietary type of hardware interface which is not MPU compatible, although a
newly available Sound Blaster card does offer an MPU compatible interface.

All MPU compatible programs assume the interface is set to the default address
of 330H and will use interrupt number 2, unless a description states it can be
modified to address other settings. Many programs aren't interupt specific and
allow any interupt setting as long as the Hex address is at 330.  All programs
for MIDI interfaces (and those not requiring an interface) run with DOS 2.1 or
higher unless descriptions state otherwise.  Specific RAM memory needs will be
shown unless RAM needed is 512K or less. If programs require specific types of
monitors or other special equipment, this will be listed in the descriptions.

Please feel free to make duplicates of the catalog disk for associates or your
friends.  If you do need an additional copy of a catalog disk for a friend, we
will ask that you send their name and address. Please also feel free to upload
copies of this catalog to Bulletin Board Systems.  We average publishing 1 new
catalog each year per computer type (IBM, MacIntosh, Atari ST/TT, Amiga) based
upon the availability of new software.  You'll automatically receive a copy of
the next catalog disk published if you place an order from a current catalog.

This new catalog disk update adds over 60 new disks. These include several new
MIDI Utility disks for use with any MIDI capable device, support program files
for use with Microsoft Windows, several new synth specific utilities and patch
bank disks, new public domain sequences, and the Song Bytes TM Style Sets.

When you place an order for disks, you don't need to use an order form as long
as you send us your name and address, the disk numbers, and tell us which disk
size to send.  A copy of the order forms for the disks and commercial songs is
included on this disk with pricing for each, which can be printed or viewed on
your monitor. If you send a check or money-order, we don't hold your order for
check clearance. All orders are shipped within 48 hours of receipt. Should you
decide to use Mastercard or Visa credit cards, please remember to include your
telephone number and please remember to sign the order form.

We do maintain mailing lists for sending catalog updates.  A new catalog, when
it is available,  will be sent to you automatically if you place an order from
this catalog.  If you do not place an order, we will send a postcard notifying
you of the availability of a new catalog. It does help us if you mention which
synths and/or MIDI software you are currently using.  If your address changes,
please remember to send us a change of address notice.

Although a large number of articles on computer viruses have stated the spread
of these programs is due to public domain bulletin boards, the greatest number
have been found in commercial programs and pirated versions of files. Software
in the public domain is a great resource and you can rest assured each program
in this catalog is tested by several virus detection utilities. Every MSE disk
and each program is tested individually and passes all tests as virus-free. We
cannot afford to lose original compositions created in our studios, and we are
certain that your creativity is just as important to you.

We are now in our seventh year of providing you with the best of the available
public domain or shareware music software. Thank you very much for all of your
kind letters and comments and thank you for your continuing support!

If we can be of assistance with a question about software or hardware,  please
call or write.  We are here to help in any way we can - Keep making the music.

WE ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO SERVING YOU!
